Ahold Delhaize to close underperforming Stop & Shop stores in the United States

Supermarket group Ahold Delhaize said Thursday it will close an undisclosed number of underperforming Stop & Shop stores in the United States this year.

Ahold Delhaize declined to disclose the number of stores affected, saying it would do so later this year.

“Stop & Shop has already evaluated its entire portfolio and will make difficult decisions to close underperforming Stop & Shop stores to create a healthy long-term store base,” said JJ Fleeman, CEO of the group in the United States, during a conference call with analysts.

Stop & Shop, a chain located in the northeastern United States, is one of the group's five brands in the country and operates nearly 400 stores.

Ahold Delhaize generates more than half of its turnover in the United States.

In 2023, its sales in the United States will amount to 54.54 billion euros.

Personal Considerations

I used to shop at Stop n Shop but once I started going to Big Y I never went back. All the local Stop n Shops, even the newer ones, feel like they are 15 years old and are just plain boring. The machines are boring, half the items are out of stock or never existed anyway, and the organizational scheme always looks like it was drawn up by some drunk guy.  May be this is the reason of underperformimg Conneticut stores

Like I'm trying to shop to be faster for everyone, fuck you, and when I have 10 items of one item I don't want to scan each one once, just let me scan the same ten times. , you don't need to weigh everything. Stop n Shop is very annoying every time I go there, Big Y is almost always the answer
